10 DISASTROUS Attempts At Forcing Game Franchises To Continue
9. The Legend Of Spyro Trilogy
In its heyday, Spyro the Dragon was a platforming titan and among PlayStation's most recognisable characters. Though Sony's other mascots like Crash Bandicoot and Lara Croft continued to have success for decades, it appeared as if the little purple dragon peaked early.
Although the first three Spyro games are top-notch, everything fell apart when Insomniac jumped to a new project. When later entries failed to make a splash, Krome Studios stepped in to rejuvenate the winged wonder's legacy.
Krome's reboot, The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, looked promising, since it focused more on combat, character development, and boasted some Hollywood stars, including Elijah Wood and Gary Oldman.
And yet, this reimagining wasn't up to standard, thanks to the wonky camera, dated platforming mechanics, and repetitive button-mashing.
Due to the cold reception The Legend of Spyro received, it would've been wise for the planned sequels to be cancelled. But not only were the follow-ups released, the developers learned nothing from their mistakes, since Part 2 and 3 had the same issues as the first.
This shoddy trilogy turned out so poorly, there hasn't been a new Spyro game since, even after 15 years.
