3. The Darkness
One of the best first-instalments in what could have been a very fruitful franchise was The Darkness, telling the story of ex-mobster Jackie Estacado and his pendulum-swing love-hate relationship with the titular Darkness, a timeless force that manifests itself in a similar aesthetic to that in Prototype. Gigantic tendrils topped with snake-heads protrude out from Jackie whenever the Darkness was summoned in-game, and although the first-person heart-ripping and limb-tearing was sometimes done in cutscenes (especially in the sequel), the fact that one of the kills involves an enemy getting their ribcage torn open before Jackie literally extracts their heart with his bare hands, is worthy of its inclusion of this on the list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_B6Z9CT6_M
