10 Disturbing Gaming Moments You Just Went With As A Kid

5. Seeking Out Manhunt's Red Level Kills

"It's a game where you go around butchering people as violently as possible, before eventually taking the fight back to a maniacally oppressive film director who's orchestrated it all"
"BRILLIANT" we all said, clutching our controllers and wanting to see just how far the boundaries of digital gore could be pushed, "Where do we pick up our machetes?!" It's strange, because when you think about it, Manhunt could only really have existed on PS2/Xbox generation hardware. It was the perfect level of depicted realism through disturbing audio and visual cues, whilst not having the graphical fidelity or relatable imagery to really make it a truly worrying depiction of controllable violence. Back in 2003 Rockstar were the renegade poster-boys for controversial material, and even when we were gutting gang members with scythes or breaking bones with claw hammers, it didn't seem to bother anybody one tiny bit.
