Claret Hollows is revealed as an additional location within Etrian Odyssey: The Millennium Girl, once the main story mode has been accomplished.
Instead of receiving a
reward or new items, the player is "gifted" the opportunity to explore the
blood-drenched maze. This is in order to fight an even harder version of the
final boss.
However, progressing through Claret Hollows can be considered a battle of strategy and endurance on its own. The path is long and riddled with traps and intricate paths which must be explored.
The enemies consist of blood cells, reinforcing the notion that this labyrinth is a living organism and as the player descends further, they must progress through various orifices in the sides of walls, whilst squelching viscerally the entire time.
The entire labyrinth is filled with strong enemies, as well as a plethora of pitfalls and warps, which even the most experienced cartographer may struggle to map accurately on their first playthrough.
Claret Hallows is unforgiving, unyielding and an unforgettable experience. Whether or not, this is for a good reason is completely dependent on the player and whether they enjoy the change from verdant wilderness to a landscape of horror.
