A location made only accessible during a True Pacifist playthrough, the True Laboratory acts as a point of no return for both the player and the beings trapped within its depths. It sheds the bright colour scheme of the initial lab, signifying the darker nature of the experiments which have taken place there.

It is here that the player learns more about Alphys and what has led her to become so anxious, as well as how Flowey was created. The latter being a malicious antagonist, which does not bode well for further investigation in the gloomy darkness.

However, there is no easy escape from this location once it has been entered and various notes and tapes only add to the eerie atmosphere. This technique of discovering information is reminiscent of various horror games and creates further uncertainty about what may be uncovered in the True Lab.

Small details such as sticky operating tables imply that the lab is still operational and potential danger lurks in the darkness. This is proven true when the player restores power to the elevator. They are immediately surrounded by various Amalgamates who have been experimented on, before being saved by Alphys.
