3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Airport Massacre
In this scene, the player is put in the position of a CIA operative working undercover with Russian terrorists. The player follows the terrorists around an airport in which the civilians are massacred and security guards are gunned down. Players can join the terrorists in shooting down civilians or simply observe as they progress. Due to its huge fanbase, this disturbing scene managed to obtain a lot of attention from players, the media and politicians. The game even wisely allowed for the option to skip the level, knowing its content was bound to upset certain audiences and therefore meaning reviewers would have to give them some leniency should they criticise the scene. The level was removed altogether for the Russian edition of the game and edited in others, also causing the game to receive a more mature rating that previous Call of Duty games. Those that became aware of the game through its controversy mainly expressed distaste towards the sequence, claiming they found the content both sickening and disturbing. Not every fan of the game would have enjoyed the scene either, as their morals were brought into question as they played. Regardless, the piles of civilian bodies and pools of blood that amass throughout this scene are not easily forgettable.
