10 Disturbing Video Game Secret Areas You Regret Finding

10. Herbert's Hermit Lair - The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds
Private Division

The Outer Worlds isn't exactly Fallout when it comes to secrets to find in the open world, but there's still a couple in there that are absolutely horrifying.

Case in point, the hidden safehouse underneath the bridge connecting the two parts of Cascadia. This town was ravaged years before you arrived (leaving no survivors) and after a bunch of exploring you can unlock the connecting bridge that's otherwise been an obstacle.

If you do and walk over it (something easily missed as fast travelling is more convenient), you'll notice an elevator that leads down to a hidden safehouse. Take this and enter the building below to meet Herbert, who'll attack you on sight.

The entire area consists essentially of this man, a few skeletons, a wooly cow and a bunch of robots. Read the diary entries and it will reveal that when Cascadia went !*$% up, Herbert was sent down there, but his parents died, and he's been looked after in isolation by his robot companions ever since.

And, after surviving for years, you stirred his isolation and killed him. Well done.
