10 Disturbing Video Game Secrets Hiding In Plain Sight

3. Synth Settlers - Fallout 4

Fallout 4
Bethesda

Synths play a big role in Fallout 4. On one hand, they are the artificial lackeys of the Institute, on the other, they are their slaves that make you ask yourself if a machine can be considered alive.

Throughout the game, the citizens of the Commonwealth will warn you of synths that infiltrate different settlements to spy on their residents for the Institute.

You get to expose some of them in them in a couple of missions, but what you may not know is that even your close friends can be synth impostors!

Yes, the game features a few friendly NPCs that are secretly Institute synths. Their true identity is an easter egg because you're never meant to find this out, but if you ever choose to kill them, you can confirm their artificial existence by looting their bodies and finding a bunch of synthetic components in their brains.

The list of these secret synths includes Sturges the mechanic, Magnolia from Goodneighbor, and even random settlers that appear in your settlements!

They are all around you, hiding in plain sight, and you won't even know it's them until you decide to pull the trigger.

It honestly makes the Commonwealth's population's paranoia feel completely justified.
