10 Dream Star Wars Games And Who Should Develop Them
6. A New X-Wing/TIE Fighter Game - Criterion
This one is actually close to being a reality, since Criterion already worked on Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission, the lazily-titled, free PlayStation VR update for Star Wars Battlefront.
While dogfighting in DICE’s Battlefront was fine, it was nowhere near as enjoyable as ground-based combat, and lacked the variety and strategic elements of the ship-to-ship battles in the original Battlefront II.
While it would appear that Criterion’s VR Mission was a dry run for further space combat expansion in DICE’s Battlefront sequel, it could also be the precursor to a new standalone X-Wing game, something we haven’t seen in well over a decade.
The X-Wing and TIE Fighter games were some of the most popular Star Wars games to come out of the 90s, and fan interest would be huge if a revival was on the cards.
Having already worked on the Burnout and Need For Speed series, as well as Star Wars Battlefront, Criterion would be the perfect team to helm this kind of a project. Disney could even tie it in with post-Return of the Jedi canon, and market the game as a Poe Dameron vehicle. Failing that, even a new podracing game wouldn’t go amiss…
