10 Dream Star Wars Games And Who Should Develop Them
5. Star Wars: Obi-Wan - Crystal Dynamics
Disney’s top brass have been fairly transparent about their plans for future Star Wars anthology movies: Rogue One was conceived as a Star Wars war movie, and the Han Solo spin-off is being touted as a space-western.
This has led many people to believe that the third planned spin-off will be an homage to Star Wars’ third cinematic touchstone: Akira Kurasowa. Since Jedi are basically super-powered warrior monks, it would make sense for such a movie to follow a Force-user of some description. You know, maybe a grizzled war veteran who takes to a life of exile on Tatooine?
An Obi-Wan spin-off would be perfect fodder for an open-world, hack ‘n slash epic along the lines of Assassin’s Creed or Shadows of Mordor. Kenobi is already popular and recognisable from a marketing perspective, but there’s also plenty we don’t know about his character. It’d be pure joy to follow Obi-Wan across the wastes of Tatooine, as he fights tooth and nail to keep the Empire away from a young Luke Skywalker.
I’d nominate long-time Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics for this gargantuan task. They know how to create a truly hostile-yet-traversable environment, and Rise of the Tomb Raider injected streamlined stealth and combat, as well as a palpable sense of atmosphere into the mix.
Given how Crystal Dynamics have already signed on to make Marvel titles for the House of Mouse, it's possible that they're already on Disney's watch-list, as far as Star Wars is concerned.
