8. Realising You Killed Asgore's Wife - Undertale

A truly genius game that somehow manages to both play you at certain moments, and keep track of every last way you interact with it, one opening decision sees you break away from the overly-loving Toriel, who just wants to feed you pie and keep you in her house.

It's very Hansel and Gretel - or so you think.

The majority of players likely didn't realise Undertale's full breadth of options, and chose to kill Toriel in the name of escaping (she does refuse to get out the way and let you leave, after all).

However, doing so means repercussions right at the end of the story, as King Asgore eventually confronts you, revealing he was once married to Toriel, and will now have to kill you as revenge.

The reveal comes amidst a TON of player-specific plot points depending on what you did, but is one of the most memorable and discussed of them all because poor Toriel was slain by so many.
