10 Essential Nintendo Switch Games Every New Owner Must Play
7. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
Simply the finest side-scrolling platformer since the 2013's Rayman Legends, Shovel Knight has just as much charm as any of your childhood favourites, mixed with an exemplary score and the tightest of game mechanics.
Over time, developers Yacht Club have seen the titular Knight go from Kickstarter campaign to Nintendo Amiibo, cameoing in Yooka-Laylee and everything in between. Thus, the Shovel Knight of today is a far more accomplished beast as a game, with three additional campaigns and a co-op mode making up a literal Treasure Trove of content.
Alongside the bouncing, Ducktales-esque movement of Shovel Knight is the design-your-own potion attacks of Plague Knight and the sombre, scythe-swiping story of Specter Knight. Still to come is another campaign featuring King Knight, and a four-player Super Smash Bros. esque brawler mode, just for kicks.
Where it counts though, Shovel Knight is the kind of character that would be up there with Mario and Sonic, had he arrived a few decades earlier.
