10 Essential Strategies To Save Nintendo

6. Push Amiibo Hard

Disney Infinity almost single-handedly saved Disney Interactive, and by last count had pulled in over $500 million in less than a year. Revenues from Activision's Skylanders franchise surpassed the $2 billion mark in February this year. Two billion bucks. That's proper money. And Nintendo could soon be scooping great big piles of cash in a similar fashion if the upcoming Amiibo concept turns out to be as successful as they're hoping it will be. But that's not going to happen on its own. Nintendo needs to crank up the hype-machine to full power as we head towards launch; spread the word, push it down our throats, fill every possible advertising space with Amiibo propaganda. These little plastic characters have huge earning potential, and to capitalize on that potential Nintendo will need to be far more verbose with their marketing than they have been of late. The gaming public needs to be bombarded, we need to be constantly reminded of what makes Amiibo different - Nintendo's entry in the toy-to-game market is unique in that each figurine contains its own data within its base, transferred via the Wii U GamePad's NFC functionality, so your characters develop as you use them. Right now that sounds like a "nice-to-have" feature, not a game-changer, and Nintendo needs to convince gamers otherwise. Product awareness is key here, and it's up to Nintendo to turn these plastic figurines into a hot commodity that we just can't live without.

Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
