10 Exact Moments You Realised Games Had Wasted Your Money
4. The Hallway - Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy has always been recognised for its turn-based battles, epic bosses, beautiful soundtracks, sprawling narratives, complex characterisation, and of course, the Chocobos.
Above all else, Square's biggest brand stands out for its non-linear gameplay. Though the heroes have set destinations, they're given a lot of freedom where to go and what to do. Players are encouraged to explore since it leads to new areas, rewards, weapons, and spells. On top of that, it keeps the gameplay diversified. After all, it would be tedious to walk on a designated path for hours on end.
Sadly, anyone who's played Final Fantasy XIII knows this feeling all too well. In the beginning, Lightning and her companions must traverse down a colossal corridor, which is occasionally interrupted by enemy encounters and the odd boss.
Players will become concerned after an hour or so, wondering when the real game begins. After another hour or two or three, a dark thought crosses their mind - this hallway isn't a tedious section of the game - it is the game.
Granted, the gameplay branches out and becomes more diverse... but only after 15 hours. Too bad that many players never experienced this, since they gave up way before escaping the monotonous hallway.
