Sometimes you just can't beat cold, hard facts, and in gaming's case they relate to everything from which franchises and consoles we buy into the most, to which age bracket is the most dedicated, what subtle buying habits many of us exhibit and everything in between.

Delving into what the folks over at ESA (Entertainment Software Association) have assembled, it's quick to analyse all sorts of stats, numbers and graphs to really get a better grasp on video games as a medium. For example, the industry pumping out endless sequels, remasters and remakes isn't without adequate factual incentive, DLC doesn't exist without being a proven concept, and so on.

So, although it may seem a little strange having your every financial move catalogued and factored into one giant survey of all things digital, come see where you rank on the global scale.

Turns out your two cents goes a lot further than you might think...

Thought you were sick to death of remasters, endless sequels and remakes? It's not just you.

In fact, when asked about the reasons why they purchase games overall, 22% simply stated "Other" (which is literally 100% unhelpful), whereas 21% highlighted price, and 16% pointed to story.

That left only 9% for a "direct continuation" (read: sequel) or if a game is "familiar", proving that in this generation in particular, we're at breaking point when it comes to iteration and innovation - which is to say, there's barely been any.

People are sick of playing the same games over and over, I mean, can you point to one new game with a genre or mechanic that genuinely couldn't be done on the past generation?
