10 Fan Backlashes That SAVED Video Games
5. Not Enough To Do - Sea Of Thieves
When Rare's action-adventure game Sea of Thieves released back in 2018, the initial response was relatively muted, with some enjoying the limited seafaring shenanigans on offer, while others found the package too lacking in features to sustain interest.
The adventuring was painfully rote and generic out of the gate, which in conjunction with the amount of griefers who flocked to the game made Sea of Thieves a routinely miserable experience.
But to their eternal credit, Rare listened to the vocal feedback from fans, and over the years that followed worked hard to deliver a number of updates which significantly expanded the experience.
The addition of narrative missions called Tall Tales added a much-needed degree of structure to the core gameplay loop, and the inclusion of a PvP Arena mode was also widely praised.
Rare has continued to roll out free updates, enough that Sea of Thieves today scarcely resembles the launch product, and just last year posted its highest concurrent users ever on Steam.
That's one hell of a turnaround for a game that could've so easily disintegrated into the watery abyss were it not adequately supported.
