The Hitman Beta was revealed to be a prequel of sorts to the story by IO Interactive. The reasoning for this was to introduce fans to the series gently, but also give an excuse for the training-style missions on offer to players. As it turns out, the actual main game's story will take place after the events of Hitman: Absolution, but that doesn't necessarily mean there will no other prequel elements. It'd be quite jarring if the developers just ignored the idea outright. After all, seeing the relationship between Diana Burnwood and Agent 47 blossom is a great story hook, in a game that looks set to be more about straight up assassinations than anything else. Longtime fans want less of a convoluted tale, but that doesn't mean there can't be some story. IO may decide to include some more prequel content in the actual main game, which would be exciting. Seeing Diana go to bat for 47 is a sound idea, especially considering the agency appear hesitant over his astounding abilities as a killer. The story of how 47 and Burnwood came to trust one another so closely is simply begging to be explored.
