4. Goombahs

Super Mario is a bit of a dick when you think about it: he struts through Bowser's worlds stomping on every creature in sight without so much as a passing question to their motivation. He is the invading force, capturing castles from a defensive force who are massively unsuited to his incredible, merciless smushing power (and later his over-powered special suits.) Some of those enemies could put up a fight, and even had weapons, like the Ba-Bombs of the world, but some, like the unfortunate Goombahs could rely on nothing more than their poisonous bodies to stop the rampaging plumber menace. Goombahs are just about the easiest enemies to kill in Super Mario Bros (and right through the series,) which made actually being killed by them a massive annoyance, but even the least skilled Mario player could navigate even hordes of the walking mushrooms, which makes Bowser's decision to employ them as his foot-soldiers seem somewhat ill-informed.
