10 Features The PS5 Desperately Needs
7. Custom Faceplates
Perhaps the most surprising immediate aspect of the PS5's design isn't its bulky size but rather its reverse-Oreo-esque, white-black colour scheme.
Given that the three prior consoles were almost entirely black, it was surprising to see Sony divert from the established colour scheme with the majority of the hardware's surface being white instead.
Beyond the console's eccentric design - braced somewhere between a spaceship and a work of corporate "art" - many loyal PlayStation fans were taken aback that they'd have to accept a dust-attracting piece of white equipment in front of their TV for the next seven-ish years.
There is a small measure of solace, though, given that the white faceplates are indeed removable, with custom faceplate sellers even popping up weeks before the console's release - and inevitably being shut down by Sony.
The mere fact that Sony has taken legal action at all may well suggest that they're due to roll out their own line of faceplates in the near-future.
After all, there's surely a large swath of PS5 owners who would love a pair of black faceplates to make it match the rest of the PlayStation "family" of consoles (PS1 notwithstanding) - and their other electronic equipment.
