10 Features The PS5 Desperately Needs
4. Backwards Compatibility For PS1-PS3 Games
The fact that Sony kept quiet pre-release about the PS5's backwards compatibility features beyond the PS4 made it abundantly clear that it wouldn't be supporting prior generations also.
And while it's evidently a long shot that Sony will ever implement a comprehensive backwards compatibility infrastructure for PS1-PS3 games, the feature's absence is a major win for Microsoft, whose Xbox Series X is backwards compatible with hundreds of games from all prior Xbox generations.
In an ideal world, the PS5 would follow suit and allow players to insert a PS1, PS2, or PS3 game disc and download a digital version of it to their PS5 with an improved frame-rate, resolution, and loading times.
It would be an extremely pro-consumer move to finally initiate this, though you probably shouldn't hold your breath, because its absence doesn't seem to be hurting the PS5's early sales momentum at all.
