10 Forgotten Gaming Franchises That Must Return At E3 2015
6. Splinter Cell
Speaking of franchises that just had instalments in recent years, Ubisoft found time amongst pushing their annual Assassin's Creed releases out the door to lob sixth iteration Blacklist into the fray too - only for it to go completely under the radar thanks to everyone focussing on the lack of long-term voice actor Michael Ironside being replaced. On the contrary to popular opinion though, those who got stuck in found the best stealth experience this side of Chaos Theory, and although the story was a bit by-the-numbers it still had 24's Carlo Rota as the big bad guy, setting up some double-crosses and a handful of enjoyable twists and turns for good measure. The best part though, was in the gameplay - which saw its biggest and most refined shakeup in years. Factoring in multiple playstyles depending on whether you were going in loud or quiet, a bunch of contextual kills letting you dispatch guards from every direction and a slew of gadgets ranging from attack-drones to electric shocks, and you had the most authentic-feeling Splinter Cell there'd been in years. Ubisoft have already confirmed another is in the works, and with Assassin's Creed: Victory being a foregone conclusion as to its quality and gameplay, going down the leather-clad gadget-filled route would be a welcome deviation.
