10 Forgotten Video Game Franchises That Need to Make a Comeback
2. Legacy of Kain
Legacy of Kain was set in the fictional land of Nosgoth, a huge, spanning Gothic city where players would take on the role of protagonist Kain, a vampire anti-hero, who goes on a quest to defy his fate and restore a world balance. Gameplay for the series was a mix of action, exploration and incorporated some degree of RPG elements. The spin off, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, focused on a new anti-hero called Raziel. Set 1500 years after the end Legacy of Kain, Kain has damned Nosgoth to eternal decay after finding out he was the last guardian needed to be sacrificed to restore order to the land. Raziel is killed by Kain but is resurrected by the "Elder God" to become his "Soul Reaver" and to extract revenge on Kain. Their two stories culminated in the game Legacy of Kain: Defiance. The whole series of games take on big themes of free will, destiny, morality and redemption, whilst also borrowing themes from a variety of popular horror stories. The world you had to explore was huge, though it did not seem like a chore doing so. There were also rather eventful ways to disperse of your lesser enemies, such as impaling them, throwing them in water, or hurling them into patches of sunlight. Why it needs a comeback: Open world gameplay has enjoyed success lately due to games such as Skyrim, so Legacy of Kain could work as an RPG/adventure hybrid. Think third person version of Borderlands, though with vampires and swords instead of vagrants and guns. It would also help to bring back real vampires into modern day gaming due to their absence as of late.
