10 Forgotten Video Game Franchises That Need to Make a Comeback

1. Timesplitters

timesplitters

Timesplitters was a first person shooter based around the idea of travelling through time into various decades in history. This theme continued throughout the series and each game had a main story, various side missions, mulitplayer and a mapmaker. Each decade had you playing as a different character. Each character was tasked with collecting an item while defeating enemies and returning it to the exit. On picking up the item, evil creatures - the titular Timesplitters - teleported in with the aim of killing you. Timesplitters 2 gave the story added depth, this time putting you in the shoes of a space marine called Cortez travelling through time to stop the Timesplitters alternating the course of history by collecting time crystals. The time span for this game spanned from the Wild West right through to the 25th century. On entering each level, Cortez assumed the role of someone from that time period, namely returning characters from the first game. Timesplitters: Future Perfect followed on the story from the second installment with Cortez crash-landing on Earth and again having to travel to the past to protect the future. This time around you fought alongside the returning characters from the other games in the series. What set this game apart was the variety of levels throughout the game and the amazing multiplayer and mapmaker modes. In one level, you would be pitted against gangsters. In another, you'd face off against zombies (that could only be defeated by shooting off their heads). Future Perfect also introduced monkeys to the game as enemies by having them dressed up in various disguises - such as ninjas or zombies - which helped to make them the defining image of the series. Why it needs a comeback: With multiplayer games all the rage now due to the likes of Call of Duty, this game would really thrive online, especially due to its dedicated following. There are a wide range of characters and time zones to visit to keep the gameplay fresh. Timesplitters itself really excelled due to its multiplayer in the first place: add in some perks and a leveling system along with a load of customizable options, and you might even have the next Unreal Tournament.
