They you were, happy as Larry, essentially hopping through the undergrowth and collecting Pokémon just like Ash was on TV. Not a care in the world other than making sure you had enough Pokeballs... and then there was that fight against Brock, and the sudden realisation that the version in-game was not the loveable scamp he was in the show.

Oh no, he was a diehard Poké-badass who'll eat your creatures for breakfast. Thanks to having rock Pokemon that your pathetic Pikachu could do about as much damage to as a light breeze could to Godzilla, what should've been a simple fight against the first gym leader devolved into the digital version of trying to electrocute a giant boulder - quite predictably getting nowhere.

You could eventually wear him down if you'd stocked up on enough potions or had done enough grinding where even the weaker attacks still made a dint, but if you'd not explored and found some more appropriate creatures - water Pokémon are your friend - this is a sour point in an otherwise very well-balanced beginner's RPG.
