10 Gaming Boss Battles Ruined By RNG

5. Lord Rhyolith - World Of Warcraft

God of War Sigrun
Blizzard

World of Warcraft's Lord Rhyolith is one of the game's more divisive bosses given the RNG-adjacent mechanics which control the fight, such that he was eventually nerfed by Blizzard.

Whenever you've taken Rhyolith on, though, success or failure against him has largely been determined by his spawn location and where he subsequently ignited volcanoes.

Players need to lure Rhyolith onto these volcanoes in order to damage his Obsidian Armour, and it's entirely RNG-dependent whether he spawns the volcanoes nearby or far away, the latter of which makes the fight extremely difficult.

The battle is widely loathed by many WoW fans and its status as an RNG boss fight has been enthusiastically debated.

The eventual nerf increased his damage taken by stepping on an active volcano, among other things, but in his original form Rhyolith was absolutely soul-destroying.
