9. The Lone Wanderer - Fallout 3
BethesdaOnly nineteen years old and already this post-apocalyptic wonder kid is killing raiders, mutants, innocent townsfolk and other would-be survivors by the hundreds. Everywhere you go in the Capital, there's someone or something that needs putting down. Sure, you could sneak past the threat, or talk out your problems, but what's that? Oh, you just want to use your minigun? That's fine too, I guess. Most first-time players will have a playthough like this: a heavy focus on combat skills, with an emphasis on killing your problems, rather than talking about them. The offer still stands, but you're probably more content with just killing everyone aren't you? When played this way, the Lone Wanderer becomes a merciless mass-murderer, showing no restraint in the art of ending life. Now, he could just wing 'em or knock them out, but this maniacal vault dweller doesn't roll like that. If you're a red dot on his radar, odds are you'll end up in twenty different pieces or a pile of radioactive goo. What's most disturbing about this character is how indifferent he is to this carnage. There are bits and pieces of personality strewn across his many lines of unspoken dialogue, but he's never characterised in any way, never showing remorse for his actions. Whether you save Megaton or blow it up, he carries on like it's nothing. Seriously, this guy is willing to nuke an entire town just because he prefers a highrise apartment to a shack in a shanty town. If you're willing to commit genocide for real estate, you're probably a psychopath, and you're definitely getting a spot on this list.
