10 Gaming Heroes You Didn't Realise Are Murderous Psychopaths

6. Commander Shepard - Mass Effect 3

BiowareBiowareCommander Shepard: hero of the Alliance, saviour of the galaxy twice over, and... murderous psychopath? Yeah, that's right. Sure, he might save trillions of lives single-handedly, but that comes at the cost of thousands more. Though Sheppard's alignment is ultimately up to the player, what remains a constant is his penchant for murder. That might seem harsh, but all too often our would-be hero will resort to lethal measures to solve any situation. We might expect this from a Renegade Shep, but certainly not from a goody two-shoes Paragon player. Even if you decide to walk the nice guy route, you'll still end up killing roughly the same amount of mercenaries, aliens and soldiers. If you're so keen on peace, why insist on killing all the time? Maybe it's justifiable, with a galactic war going on, but if you're going to call yourself a Paragon of good, maybe you shouldn't be killing so indiscriminately. With so much technology at your disposal, why not invest in non-lethal weaponry with all those resources you've robbed from uncharted worlds? With all that military training and advanced weaponry, shouldn't non-lethal takedowns be a thing? Sadly, they aren't. Any and all threats to Shepard and company are dealt with by killing anyone involved. Then of course, Shepard will laugh about it later with his buddies aboard the Normandy, swapping stories of their crazy space adventures. Those weren't adventures Shepard. Those were the lives of people's friends and families you snuffed out. Maybe he doesn't care because they're aliens. Maybe Shepard's a racist. What is certain is that he is a violent psychopath, even when he doesn't need to be.
