However, John Romero himself has stated that if Brutal Doom was released in place of the original Doom in 1993, it would have singlehandedly "destroyed the game industry". The main feature of Brutal Doom is an impressive commitment to providing the player with buckets and buckets of blood. It's possible to blow off enemy body parts with weapons like the shotgun, and blood splatters the walls and ceiling. Blood slowly fills the player's vision upon being hit, the sounds have been revamped, and bullet holes even appear on the screen.
