6. The Heartbreaking Truth Behind The Dog Plushie (Apex Legends)

Every game has easter eggs, and online-only battle royales like Apex Legends are no different.

For instance, there's a hidden Loch Ness Monster in the Swamp area of the Kings Canyon map, and there's a Mega Man reference on one of the Mastiff's weapon skins. But perhaps the weirdest thing players found in the game is this dog plushie (pictured), tucked away in the corner of the firing range.

At first, this might just seem like a joke, like one of the devs having a laugh by placing an adorable little dog toy in a missable corner of the map. But in actual fact, the truth is infinitely more heartbreaking.

This dog plushie (along with an identical one found in the Market area of Kings Canyon) was put in the game by Jason McCord, one of Respawn's senior devs. McCord's real-life dog died during development, so he wanted to honour his fallen friend by memorialising her in Apex Legends.

This isn't the kind of game you'd expect to contain such a gut-wrenching detail, but discovering the plushie while knowing its backstory makes for a surprisingly emotional moment.
