At the start of the game during the Space Station Infestation, we get a very meta reference, as a cut scene reveals the Joker playing video games (on the back of some hapless stooge). The Joker is playing something that looks suspiciously like an Atari, complete with classic joypad, and uses the game to control the rockets he shoots to keep the goodies away from the Space Station. The cut scene reveals the Joker in a huff as his claims that he's going to take Batman down "old school" style are vanquished and he rage-quits as we see a shot of a 2D Batman side-scroller on his console screen. Silly, but fun all the same.
