10 GENIUS Ways Players Beat Video Games

6. Covering The Controller In Vaseline - Super Metroid

Super Mario 64

Because Super Metroid apparently wasn't challenging enough for him, streamer "Volwrath" decided to introduce the most hilariously bizarre of wrinkles - slathering his NES controller in Vaseline.

The idea is that the slippery substance would make executing split-second inputs more difficult, and though the streamer did indeed suffer through a number of incorrect button presses, he still managed to beat the game in just 41 minutes - only 13 minutes shy of the world record.

Hell, Volwrath isn't even the only speedrunner to drench their controller in a foreign fluid - in 2014 streamer "Moltov" covered his Wii Pro controller with honey while racing through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

And if you're wondering what happened to Volwrath's controller, despite his own concerns it wouldn't actually survive the run, it cleaned up just fine.
