9. Slow Down! - Mirror's Edge

As with actual parkour (and in addition to its breathtaking visuals), the main selling point of 2008’s Mirror’s Edge is its exhilaratingly flexible free-running mechanics.

The plot revolves around courier hero Faith Connors delivering packages and information while rebelling against her futuristic city’s proudly tyrannical government, and with that in mind, it should be pretty obvious that her ability to rapidly traverse great distances and small spaces is essential to her mission and gamers’ enjoyment. Therefore, slowing Connors down so much that it feels like she’s walking through molasses would be flat-out criminal.

Well, not as criminal as pirating Mirror’s Edge in the first place, of course.

According to developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts, such scoundrels deserved precisely such an ironic impediment as retribution for their transgression. Specifically, those who jumped into affected versions of Mirror’s Edge were greeted by the revelation that Connors moves like a slug whenever she’s about to launch herself from an important jump.

Good luck getting to your destinations or overthrowing your foes now!
