There's a lot to love about Dust: An Elysian Tail. This fantastic action RPG features a 10 hour story, lush environments, a rewarding combat system and stunning animations, and the whole thing was made almost entirely by Dean Dodrill, an autodidact without any professional qualifications in animation or illustration.

Dodrill originally set out to make his own short animated movie, entitled Elysian Tail, but this idea gradually transformed into a full-on, feature-length video game, requiring almost four years of development. Inspired by Metroidvania-style games and old-fashioned beat 'em ups, Dodrill slowly perfected his project and caught the attention of Microsoft, who offered to release his game on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Dodrill enlisted the help of a friend to help in writing some parts of the story and wasn't responsible for the game's soundtrack, but he made everything else by himself, resulting in one of the best indie games of the last few years.
