10 Great Video Games Made By Just One Person

5. Braid

Dust An Elysian Tail Dust
Thekla Inc.

Braid was one of the first big indie titles to come out and show that small groups of people and individual designers could make games to rival the big development studios. This thought-provoking puzzler was developed by Jonathan Blow and received dozens of perfect review scores upon release.

Blow, a computer science student who quit university early, started development on Braid in 2004. He invested a huge amount of time and money into the game's creation, but he believed in his project and was contacted by Microsoft about releasing it as part of the Xbox Live Arcade service in 2008.

The original version of the game featured crude designs and graphics, so Blow enlisted the help of illustrator David Hellman to bring his ideas to life, but he created the vast majority of the game all by himself. It was a big success, with a twist ending that remains memorable to this day and some exceptionally clever time-bending puzzles.
