10 Great Video Games You'll Never Play Again (And Why)

7. Far Cry 2

What It Is: The second game in the Far Cry series, and the first that was developed by Ubisoft, rather than Crytek who went on to form their own studio and work on Crysis. Why It's Great: Far Cry 2 took the series' open-world, outpost-tackling gameplay to the African Savannah - a vast hostile environment that's rarely been explored in video-games. The game world is huge and admittedly quite barren, but has its own desolate, arid beauty that's a little more distinctive than the lurid settings of Far Cry 3 and 4. The storyline is surprisingly sensitive in its depiction of a political power struggle in a turbulent country, and in its Buddy system where actual named characters come to your aid - and possibly die in awesome moments of unpredictable, emergent gameplay. Then there's the game's ending, which continues to fuel fan debates to this day; just who really was the Jackal? Why You'll Never Play It Again: Far Cry 2 has a unique environment is a joy to explore, but it simply lacks the larger-than-life character of its successors - which are filled with eccentric villains, psychedelic drug sequences, and tons of wacky things to do that turn their environments into veritable playgrounds. Far Cry 3 and 4 are less punishing, less realistic, and more refined than Far Cry 2 - whose many gritty qualities and facets just aren't glamorous or overstated enough to draw people away from its successors.
