4. Project Zomboid
You will die. This is one of the first things you're told when you boot up this little indie gem from UK developers The Indie Stone. Greenlit by Steam recently, Project Zomboid has been available to download direct from the developers for some time now and has developed a cult following among modders and survivalists worldwide. Whereas games like Resident Evil and Dead Rising define survival as rationing ammo and getting to the next area, Project Zomboid takes a more pragmatic approach and the entire point of the game is documenting your death, with each playthrough seeing you learn from your mistakes and survive just that little bit longer. The top-down presentation is fun and unique, and you not only have to worry about the zombie menace, you also have to keep an eye out for looters and desperate survivors. For those looking for something a bit different from their zombie games this comes highly recommended, and you can download the demo for free or pay for the full game at the Project Zomboid website.
