Though there is no single thing a final boss fight can do to achieve legendary status, a true final boss must be able to properly represent the game's most climatic moment. If you don't inhale the moment that you see them on-screen, and only dare to breathe again the moment they've fallen, then the boss can never join the ranks of the greats.

There is no final boss that better embodies this feeling than Ganondorf. Though the initial fight itself is perhaps not the most elaborate the franchise has ever produced - you simply bounce projectiles back at Ganondorf with the Master Sword - the battle's set-up perfectly captures the feeling of a true finale. Of course, things properly escalate the moment that you cause Ganondorf's castle to fall around him and witness the one and only Ganon emerge from the ashes.

Ocarina of Time did a fantastic job of making fans believe that Ganon would not appear in this game, and his shocking appearance at the very moment that you begin to exhale makes it all the more special.
