10 Greatest JRPGs Of All Time

1. Chrono Trigger

To this day, Chrono Trigger remains Square's masterwork, and the greatest JRPG ever made. And you can take it from me with confidence because your scribe wasn't even born yet when it came out. But I cannot deny, it really is as good as everyone says.

The story sees a young man name Chrono going to a carnival, and then next thing you know, he and the princess of his kingdom and his cute inventor bestie are getting sent on an adventure throughout time and space.

The kids may not have asked for this, but they, and Chrono in particular, will have to knuckle down, as they quickly find out they are the only thing standing between their world and utter destruction at the hands of an eldritch god named Lavos. And like with any good time travel story, that's the extent of what I can reveal without giving away big stuff.

Everything about this game, from the beautiful designs by Akira Toriyama, to how the game keeps track of even the smallest action you make and has it come back to bite you in ways that are shocking without being too unfair, to the wonderful turn-based combat, feels like it was fussed over until it was just right.

If you haven't played it before and have managed to remain unspoiled, you owe it to yourself to play the greatest JRPG ever made.
