10 Greatest RPGs Of All Time
5. Dragon Age: Origins
Having long since proved that they knew their way around crafting a solid RPG, BioWare's 2009 effort, Dragon Age: Origins, rose up from nowhere to sit with all the big boys of fantasy storytelling.
Set in the land of Thedas, Dragon Age: Origins details the struggles of a Grey Warden, legendary warriors drafted to fight an ancient threat, as they try to end the Blight, an onslaught of Darkspawn led by an Archdemon (which is basically a giant, evil dragon).
Designed to have RPG fans hooked off the bat, Origins' character creation menu alone had players excited to experience the game.
Given a choice of race, class and origin story as well as all the general aesthetic fiddling, players entered a world hand-crafted around them, and were given the ability to shape the events unfolding instead of just experiencing them.
With so many choices to make, companions to find and even conversations to have, Dragon Age: Origins was literally filled to the brim with content, all of it fresh, well-written and engaging.
With an interesting and unique lore and in-depth explanations for the world's workings available in the game's countless scattered codex entries, Dragon Age: Origins was a genuine dream for fans of the fantasy RPG genre.
