9. Sindri "Proposed" To Kratos By Throwing An Apple At Him - God Of War
A wonderfully clever sliver of low-key storytelling occurs in 2018's God of War when Kratos and Arteus are heading to Thamur's corpse and are met by the affable dwarven inventor Sindri.
He announces himself by throwing an apple Kratos' way, which the beefy brute swiftly slices in two with his trusty axe. Though this is easily dismissed as the blunt object that is Kratos having no interest in eating fruit, it's actually much smarter than that.
It's long been theorised that throwing an apple at someone in Ancient Greece amounted to a declaration of love or perhaps even a proposal of marriage. With Kratos' past as the Greek God of War, it only follows that he would read the gesture that way.
And so, he instinctively sliced the apple in half as a rejection of any potential romance with Sindri, who as a product of the Norse world would be totally oblivious to that implication.
When this realisation went viral, God of War director Cory Barlog waded in to basically confirm it was an intentional flourish on the part of the creative team.
We all knew the new God of War had the deepest, richest characterisation of the series, but this is next level right here.
