The Wonderboy games were a pivotal series of titles during the early SEGA years, demonstrating the quality that the company was able to put out without and quickly becoming popular in their native Japan.

While many would argue that the third game - The Dragon's Trap - was the pinnacle of the series, Shion also made a notable appearance on the Megadrive before starting to fade into relative obscurity in the excellent Wonderboy in Monster World.

It was during this game that the issue of crossing a desert came up, with the natural solution being for Wonderboy to traverse Poseidon's shrine in an effort to get help from the master of the seas.

The dungeon itself is one of the more difficult in the game and players are rewarded with a brief conversation with Poseidon himself, who allows Shion to take the Oasis Shoes that he needs to cross over the harsh terrain of the desert.

It's a small appearance, but it is one that is absolutely vital to progressing in the game and many a player will be more than happy to simply see Poseidon's face and find out that he is friendly after fighting their way through such a difficult dungeon.
