10 Greatest Video Game Voice Actors

9. Aaron Staton (L.A. Noire)

L.A. Noire was a landmark title in as much as it heightened the cinematic applications of video games, with its revolutionary motion capture technology which allowed the voice actors to deliver more expressive performances than ever before, therefore giving games a whole new emotional and dramatic potential. Aaron Staton - best known to many for his work on Mad Men - was essentially the guinea pig for this technology, playing protagonist Detective Cole Phelps in Rockstar's crime thriller. Though Phelps definitely seemed a bit schizophrenic throughout the game owing to the choices you made, Staton made a strong effort to imbue Phelps with the relevant emotions whatever choices you made. Though our esteem for Staton here is perhaps unfairly accentuated by the more extensive properties of his performance, there's no doubt that on purely vocal terms, it's one that helps to create a character who is at once doggedly determined and then, later on in the game, a lot more complex than we might have reasonably expected.
