10 Guilty Pleasure Video Games We All Played More Than Any Blockbuster

4. The Punisher

Another movie-licensed third person shooter, 2005's The Punisher is the most violent game on this list. Maybe the most staggering fact about this game is it was originally envisioned to be even more brutal - developer Volition were forced by various rating boards to tone down the bloodshed to get a release, and some countries just outright banned it. The reaching questions about justice and violence raised by the comics makes The Punisher one of the more interesting Marvel characters - but this game has no time for such philosophical pondering. This game is about providing the player with vicious spills and thrills, and it delivers. You can wipe out hordes of goons with the usual array of assault rifles, rocket launchers and flamethrowers, but what makes The Punisher unique is the ability to interrogate enemies for information. These interrogations are sadistically varied - you threaten thugs with the help of a woodchipper, a deep fat fryer and a pool of hungry piranhas to mention but three. There's nothing revolutionary about this game, but as a trashy piece of shlock it's tough to beat. 16 levels of dismembering and brutally torturing a series of scumbags - just good clean fun.
