10 ‘Happy’ Video Games With Dark Secrets

6. Brotherly Love In Duck Hunt

Nearly every NES owner will remember Duck Hunt €“ the light gun shooting game which challenged gamers to use that iconic NES Zapper gun to shoot ducks and clay pigeons. Depending on your stance on hunting, you will either think that the game€™s premise is perfectly inoffensive or extremely dark. The colourful, cartoonish presentation of the 1984 light gun game means that those without a strong stance on the issue of hunting would class Duck Hunt as an upbeat game. A feature which must certainly be deemed dark by everyone is the fact that you had the ability to play as a duck in the game, blasting your happy brethren and sistren out of the sky with the Zapper before the Duck Hunt Dog ran over to maul their fallen corpses. It was no secret that you could play as the titular bird in Duck Hunt €“ it even said in the game€™s manual. However, who bothered to read that? This unpleasant little gaming secret is bound to disgust everybody, even those who have been hunting their whole lives.
