6. World 7-2 (Super Mario Bros 2)

Although Super Mario Bros 2 is the black sheep of the family, it had one thing in common with the other games - a penchant for levels that make you want to rip your hair out. The worst offender was World 7-2, a vast, trap-filled castle with enough rooms to rival a Zelda dungeon. It didn€™t help that most of those rooms contained spike pits and conveyor belts, but it was the amount of Sparks floating around that made this one a nightmare. Sparks are those levitating faces with an electrical charge and movement patterns that boggle the mind. Virtually every spot on the screen was a death trap with a cluster of these things flying about. To make matters worse, players were pursued by a Phanto once they had the key to final boss Wart€™s chamber in their possession - and even the door to his lair came to life and attacked ahead of the final showdown, which was a gruelling contest in itself.
