5. Luigis Purple Coins (Super Mario Galaxy)
You cant knock Super Mario Galaxy for its longevity. Beating the game gave us the chance to revisit each level to gather those purple coins that appear after the first playthrough. But those coins were the Devils pocket change on the Luigi Planet because they turned this homage to Marios brother into one huge deathtrap. You could only touch each disintegrating platform once, so the margin for error couldnt have been more stingy. Players fell to their death again and again, dying more times than Kenny from South Park, and there was nothing more agonising than plummeting to your doom with only a couple of coins left to collect. Mario Galaxy rewarded players who collected every Power Star with the opportunity to replay the game as Luigi - who was more fiddly to control - but this didnt feel like much of a reward when tackling this unforgiving level with the green-clad sibling.
