10 Most Harrowing Decisions We Made To Progress In Video Games

1. Killing Your New Best Friend - The Walking Dead

Now it might be because I'm a huge animal lover, or it might be because no part of me whatsoever saw it coming, but the section in Walking Dead's season 2 episode 1 where your once-loyal canine friend suddenly goes feral and you're forced to stab it enough to stop it mauling poor Clem's arm off, is genuinely the most harrowing thing I've ever played in a game. Granted there's the scene with the child Duck in season 1 which had a certain finality and silence to it that was very affecting depending on how attached to his character you'd become (I hadn't much as it turned out, Clem was the one I was looking after the most). However now that she's out on her own and trying to find some companionship whilst dealing with Lee's death, the immediately visceral nature this encounter has, alongside the sudden tonal switch from sharing your food only for an encounter to come out of nowhere, really encapsulated the world of The Walking Dead perfectly. I'm sure I'll have missed some out, so please throw them down in the comments below, and let's all take a collective exhale that everything's alright...for now.
