10 Hidden Gems On Nintendo Switch

3. Salt & Sanctuary

Switch Missed Games
Ska Studios

Are you a fan of games like Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Sekiro? Then you owe it to yourself to try Salt & Sanctuary. Developed by Ska Studios in 2016, Salt & Sanctuary originally came to PCs and PlayStation systems, but is now available on Nintendo's platform.

It's like a twisted melding of Dark Souls and the Castlevania series, while blazing a trail all of its own. The game was praised for its hand-drawn visuals, brutal gameplay, RPG elements, and mind-blowing level of customisation.

The story takes you to a haunted island following a shipwreck, where you find dungeons, castles, cities, and no shortage of horrifying enemies. A side-scrolling game inspired by the Dark Souls franchise might sound a little odd but Salt & Sanctuary is one of the few legitimately scary side-scrollers out there. The combat and aesthetic is heavily-inspired by FromSoftware titles, and, while the hand-drawn art-style is a little jarring at first, it's actually quite a beautiful game. In a disgusting, terrifying kind of way.

If you fancy yourself a fresh descent into madness, then Salt & Sanctuary is a great option that will take around 25 hours to complete. That is, if you can get past the first boss fight.
