The Continent, where The Witcher 3 is set, is a dark and forlorn place. Even at a time when fantasy games have been veering towards more adult themes, the Witcher 3's world stands out as particularly brooding (but not in that 'moody teenager' way), immersing us in a war-torn land that's oozing with tragedy and character. With the weight of The Witcher 3's atmospheric world on your shoulders, it comes as a surreal relief when you stumble upon this troll cave on Ard Skellige, inhabited by three rock trolls called Joe, Jesse and Dodger. If you think these names seem a little out of place in a Witcher game, that's because they're references to YouTube celebrities Angry Joe, Jesse Cox and DexterityBonus, who voiced the three trolls. As you enter, the trolls talk about rotten onions and fingers in bumholes, punctuated by wholesome troll-farts - real high-brow stuff. While their bowel problems and oafish conversation make the trolls kind of endearing, as a monster-hunter you feel obliged to purge them, so with a heavy heart you unsheath your silver sword and head forth - though the emotional gravity of slaying the trolls is alleviated somewhat by their ongoing flatulence throughout your showdown. Still haven't experienced what we rate as the best game of the year? You can pick up The Witcher 3 DRM-free at GOG.com, where its price has been regularly dropping by 50% in recent months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZQ1LmIvluA
