10 Hidden Video Game Details You Can Only Find Once A Year

There's nothing better than getting some unexpected well wishes on your birthday.

Game Freak appear to have realised this because ever since the fifth generation of the franchise, Pokemon player's have had a little surprise to look forward to if they decided to play the game on their special day.

In Pokemon Black and White, if the player enters a Pokemon Center on their birthday they are greeted with congratulations from the nurse behind the counter.

This has continued with the more recent iterations of the series, but with a little more fanfare. In Pokemon X and Y, if the player enters a Pokemon Center on their birthday, the lights will initially be dimmed before confetti falls and a picture of a cake can be seen on the screen ahead.

Player birthdays aren't the only occasion that Game Freak has celebrated by adding a special detail in their games, however. In Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, if the player visits Snowpoint City on January 12, director Junichi Masuda's birthday, the normal snowfall is replaced with a special variation of the weather known as diamond dust.
